As many of you know, I am a huge Bat Mobile fan and have been a huge admirer of George Barris, the King of the Kustomizers who created the 1960’s Bat Mobile. It is with great sorrow that I found this reported on his sons Facebook page today.
“Sorry to have to post that my father, legendary kustom car king George Barris, has moved to the bigger garage in the sky. He passed on peacefully in his sleep at 2:45 am. He was surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home. He lived his life they way he wanted til the end. He would want everyone celebrate the passion he had for life and for what he created for all to enjoy. Thank you all for the posts and calls, your love is deeply appreciated. Peace”. — with Alison Martino and Brett Barris.
There are few car designers/builders out there who have had more of an impact on my life. As a kid my favorite toy was an RC model of his Bat Mobile design and as I got older I was a fan of his other “hot rod” creations. He had a huge impact on the whole car scene.
